In team handball, lots of questions surround the goalkeeper’s dos and don’ts. And one of the biggest questions appears when the keeper leaves his goal area. When’s he allowed to leave and when he isn’t? Let’s discover!
The keeper may leave the area when…
– He hasn’t the ball possession;
– He touches the ball, but can’t control it and runs after it.
The keeper isn’t allowed to leave the area when…
– He has the ball possession.
If the goalkeeper leaves his goal area holding the ball, the opposing team is awarded a free-throw. It should be taken on the 9-meter line.
